Design choices in randomization tests that affect power

چکیده

We consider the problem of evaluating designs for a small-sample two-arm randomized experiment using power one-sided randomization test as criterion. Our evaluation assumes linear response in one observed covariate, an unobserved component and additive treatment effect where model's randomness is due to different allocations. It well-known that depends on allocations’ imbalance covariate. show additionally affected by two other design choices: number allocations degree dependence. prove more allocations, higher lower variability power. theoretical findings simulation studies with highest provide thousands highly independent each providing nominal covariates. These high-powered exhibit less than complete recently proposed employ numerical optimization. This advantage high easily accessible practicing experimenters via popular rerandomization greedy pair switching design, both outperform The tradeoff we find also provides means specify rerandomization’s threshold parameter.

Randomization tests -1- Randomization tests in language typology

Two of the major assumptions that statistical tests make (random sampling, distribution of the data) are not tenable for most typological data. We suggest to use randomization tests, which avoid these assumptions. Randomization is applicable to frequency data, rank data, scalar measurements and ratings, so most typological data can be analyzed with the same tools. We provided a free computer pr...

Randomization Tests for Relational Learning

Algorithms for relational learning and proposi-tional learning face different statistical challenges. In contrast to propositional learners, rela-tional learners often make statistical inferences about data that exhibit linkage and autocorrela-tion. Recent work has shown that these characteristics of relational data can bias inferences made by relational learners. In this paper, we develop a no...

Calculating statistical power in Mendelian randomization studies.

In Mendelian randomization (MR) studies, where genetic variants are used as proxy measures for an exposure trait of interest, obtaining adequate statistical power is frequently a concern due to the small amount of variation in a phenotypic trait that is typically explained by genetic variants. A range of power estimates based on simulations and specific parameters for two-stage least squares (2...
